The interior of Bakar is spartan and minimalistic.
Flipping through the menu, first thing popped out in my minds was the penang street foods- Ikan Bakar, Jagung Bakar, Lembing Bakar, etc...
I love Jagung Bakar (Grilled Sweet Corn). The very first time I tried Jagung Bakar was at Batu Ferrighi , Penang.
There are some small street food stalls operated by the locals. A simple small stall with just a simple grilled machine , or some even still using the traditional way of grill with only charcoal and steel net , can always have long queue.
Since I always settle my cravings for the grill by the street. Let me try this and let's see what is the different when these foods are being serve finely on the table.
US Asparagus
So far, I haven't come across any street stall selling grilled asparagus yet . The aroma of the asparagus strongly enhanced by the grilling method and it goes perfectly fine with the Romesco sauce. Simple and I like.
Grilled Sweet Corn
Personally, I prefer the grilled sweet corn @ Batu Ferrighi. Guess its the type of salt and butter they use that make the total different taste of the sweet corn. I prefer to feel the salt when chewing the sweet corn. For me, the salt size does matter.
Spring Chicken
The chicken was not bad.
Dorper Lamb Ribs
*MUST TRY*
This dish definitely set an impression for me. I am not a fans of lamb meat due to the 'sheepy' taste.but this was my favorite dish for the night. The fairly distribution of the marbling on the shoulder cut perform the perfect juiciness and it literally melted in the mouth. The best contribution for my guiltiness of the night.
Grilled Fish
I am a super picky fish eater. I have tried quite a number of better ikan bakar with fair price so I will leave this for you to judge yourself;)
Charcoal Pavlova
This desert appeared on every table. I put the blame on the Dorper Lamb Ribs because that is the only one that strikes my appetite that night and left no space for others eventhough i am a dessert lover.
At least, I tried. ;)
In conclusion, personally i think that if you really don't mind of squatting sitting beside the street for the sake of good food even if you have to covered with sweat, there are really some good stalls around gonna satisfied your cravings. But, if you're looking for a good place to chill and enjoy your food without any hassle, Bakar it is.
